May, June, July and August 2012 - what a summer for the HRG as it continues to show its importance in the current Concours world of perfection.

Thanks again for all the support I receive from H&W. Bill, Wes and Paul are friends and mentors. This is just the beginning of some amazing creations we will see from these guys.

It has been a very long process that included a huge amount of research before any restoration could begin on the 1938 HRG. The Afflecks were patient and supported the work done by Bill Hahn, Wes Woodward, Paul Vorbach and all the crew at H&W in Harmony, PA. Award-winning work!

Please give a listen to the Hahn & Woodward-sponsored Builders podcast to hear about the fun and excitement that was all part of a magical week at Amelia Island in Florida.

Next March, that is the place to be to experience the coolest of open air high-quality car shows on the East coast of the USA.

For right now, we can enjoy the 2012 story with Bill, Wes and Paul. Check out the podcast and the photos in the Garage.

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Affleck. Be careful in the hot rod.

We have followed this Bagger from the very beginnings of its creation (check out the original frame and Bill's drawings in the talk hot rods Garage), and with Bill's help have shown and talked about each step of an amazing process.
I am a lucky guy to have had the chance to follow the creative people involved with this build. My hat is off to them all. I am proud to have seen it all happen.

This is just the beginning of a fun and busy year for Bill and The Honey Bagger. We will keep you posted as to where you can see the bike this summer and fall.

The Garage has lots of photos of the Honey Bagger (yes the dash is an iPad!) and I am working on a video of the bike and its builders. Stay tuned.

By the way, Bill explains the name of the bike in the podcast.

I can't thank Bill Steele enough for his support of talk hot rods and his friendship.

For the best auto body work, go to Steele Auto Body in Oakdale, PA.

Thanks Doc, I feel better already. Be careful in the hot rod and on the hot bike too!

All of this is leading up to one of the most prestigious car shows in the world - Amelia Island - this March. The HRG will be one of only 225 cars that have been invited to be a part of the 2012 show. What an honor that is so well-deserved.
Congrats to Bill, Wes and Paul, and have fun in Florida!

<itunes:summary>Gerry Kerna’s Chevy II, nicknamed “The Runt,” will be traveling with Curt Ukasik and Fritz Holzer out to Las Vegas for the biggest hot rod show in the world. From November 1st to 4th, 2011, thousands of people involved in the aftermarket industry and the media will have a chance to see the incredible work of Curt and the crew at RPM in Warrendale, PA. The Runt will be a part of the Optima display and will be doing more than just looking pretty. We are all so proud of Gerry and her latest hot rod; we hope to interview Gerry in Vegas for a future podcast.

Please give a listen to the podcast with Curt as he fills us in on the status of the many projects that are underway at RPM and what they have planned for their trip to Vegas and beyond...
There are lots of photos in the garage (and below) of projects underway and some cool shots of the RPM hauler that will once again be full of beautiful hot rods as it gets Curt and Fritz from Pittsburgh to Vegas and back.

I very much appreciate the advice from Curt on my first trip to SEMA and I send out a special thanks to Curt and all the guys at RPM for always making me feel welcome. I have said it before. This is the shop that has really put Western PA on the map when it comes to hot rods.

Stay tuned for more podcasts with Curt and the guys that we will record in Vegas along with tons of photos and videos. I can’t wait to see the show and spend time with so many talented builders and some of my Flashlight Drags buddies.

Thanks Doc, I feel better already. Be careful in the hot rod.

The work that Bill and Matt are putting into Bagger is shown in the details. There are so many details it is hard for me to do them justice. Take a good look at the photos. We are getting to see what few other people will see once the project is completed.

You will also hear in the podcast what Bill is also working on for a special display at the SEMA show this November. Hey, did I mention I was going to the SEMA show this year? Well, Bill gives me good advice about seeing the show.

<itunes:summary>After a long and hard restoration/reconstruction which has taken years, Bill, Wes and Paul recently had a chance to take the HRG to the Indy Goodguys show and not only won the award for “Period Perfect” but also had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to actually run the car on the fabled brickyard. From its 1938 debut at The Brooklands in Great Britain to its 2011 rebirth at Indy, the HRG has had an amazing life saved by its owner and the guys at H&W.

Please give a listen to the latest update from Bill Hahn, Wes Woodward and Paul Vorbach as they tell the HRG's story of near death to stunning glory. There are so many things that had to be overcome for this to be a happy story. It is an achievement that any hot rodder can appreciate.
Head to the Garage for photos of the HRG at Indy and the progress of the many projects underway at H&W. My personal favorite will always be the blue Ferrari Lusso that will soon have its V12 back in place and singing that beautiful Ferrari song.

I look forward to being part of the First Annual Zelienople-Harmony Invitational Motor show October 9, 2011 in downtown Zelienople, PA. The show runs from Noon to 4:00pm with a special parade of cars down Main Street at 3:00pm.

This is all part of the 27th Annual Country Fall Festival and will include specially invited rare, classic and antique vehicles.

Thanks again to Bill, Wes and Paul for another great podcast and for being friends and mentors to me.

Thanks Doc, I feel better already. Be careful in the hot rod.

<itunes:summary>I just returned from a great evening with three of the original members of the Pittsburgh C.A.R.S. Club, which began 20 years ago in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.

It was a beautiful early evening when I got together with Harold "Hud" Hood, Lee Rushnick and Charles Weinheimer. We recorded the podcast in front of Hud's garage and the setting was perfect. Also on-hand was Hud's dog "Harley" who can be heard in the podcast barking at the Harleys that were driving by that night on their way to a bike cruise in the area.

You will also hear Charles' '66 Corvette and Hud's '68 Coronet R/T in the podcast. Hud's car is heard at the end of the recording.

I had so much fun talking to the guys about their cars and their own automotive histories. I also found out all about the club's origins, their Oldies dance, their Christmas food drive and their love of cars. This is a club that knows how to have fun and it only takes a few minutes with these guys to see why the club has lasted 20 years.
The name of the club, C.A.R.S., stands for Classics, Antiques, Rods and Specialties. Visit the Pittsburgh C.A.R.S. Club for more information.

This is the first podcast featuring a club and we hope to do more with Pittsburgh C.A.R.S. and other area clubs too.

Special thanks to Lee and Charles for bringing out their cars (check out accompanying photos of the Pittsburgh C.A.R.S. Club in the Garage) and to Hud for putting it all together. Hud's wife was also very gracious to allow me to photograph Hud's collection of valve covers and memorabilia that he has displayed in his game room. You can also view some of the original documents from Charles' Corvette.

Thanks Doc, I feel better already. Be careful in the hot rod.

<itunes:summary>On August 2nd, I had a chance to go to the 6th annual USAir employee car show at the Pgh. International Airport. There were so many cool hot rods on-hand that I didn’t know where to start. Please take a look in the Garage [ 2011 USAir Employee Car Show] to see what I mean. It was a great turnout that raised money for Toys for Tots.

Special thanks to John and Cory Black for the invitation to the show. Their ’66 mid-engine Corvair was the highlight of the show and the podcast that we recorded gives us an inside look at the design and fabrication of that hot rod.

This is not the first time that I have seen the Corvair. John and Cory take their car to Beaverun Motorsports Complex in Wampum, PA quite often. They were with us recently at Beaverun and it was such a treat to watch and hear Cory fly through the autocross. I was even more impressed when John ran the Corvair in the Flashlight Drags later in the day. WOW! What a hot rod!

In the podcast you will hear what Cory has planned next for this 400+ hp screamer and you will also hear what his dad has to say about it.

The absolute best part of doing talkhotrods.com is the people I meet. The fact that they become friends is icing on the hot rod cake. John and Cory aren’t just father and son, they are hot rod builders that share a common goal: To build the coolest cars and bikes that are possible. The photos give you a good idea of the craftsmanship, but you really have to see and hear this beast in person.

Don’t be surprised to see the Black’s ’66 Corvair in Hot Rod Magazine later this year. Hot Rod’s Detroit editor Bill McGuire was with us the day that John and Cory were at the Flashlight Drags and he loved the car. Bill did an interview and a photo session a few weeks later and we are all waiting to see it in print.

Very special thanks go out to John and Cory for their incredible podcast. Please give a listen and if you need more info just get in touch with me here at talkhotrods and I will put you in touch with John and Cory.

Huge thanks also go to the folks that put on the USAir car show, especially the guys who brought out all of their beautiful creations. From John and Cory’s Corvair to a split window ’63 Corvette with a solid lifter 327 and factory knock-off wheels, it was a great show that they all should be proud of.

It was the kind of day that really makes me miss my dad. He would have loved the cars and the people behind them.

I know that you are into cars and I suggest you count your blessings every time you are behind the wheel of your hot rod. I know I do!

Thanks Doc, I feel better already. Be careful in the hot rod.

I was surprised to find out that although Bill has built some 30 or so award-winning bikes (including one for TV), he has very few photos or video to document the builds. Bill is always so gracious to put up with me as I disrupt his busy days at the shop.

Please give a listen to Bill’s latest podcast and check out the progress of the Bagger in the Garage section. It’s a very cool inside look at another award winner.

<itunes:summary>Hahn & Woodward Automotive Restorations in Harmony, PA are busy getting cars ready for the summer season. They are so busy, it’s hard to get them to slow down for an interview.

I was lucky enough to drag Paul Vorbach from his work and sit down for an update on the many projects they have in progress.

Please take a look at the photos in the Garage as you listen to the podcast. The HRG is very close to being done and the Mercedes 300 SL’s both Gullwings and roadster are really taking shape. There is also a photo of their new trailer which contains their next project. I can't tell you what it is yet but you will be floored when you find out.

The Ferrari Lusso is the most beautiful car I have ever seen and is near completion as well. The V12 is a work of art all on it’s own.

Again, I say thanks to Bill, Wes and Paul at Hahn & Woodward for all their support and for letting me stop by every month to document the progress of their builds.

Look for the HRG at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in July at Schenley Park. It is amazing and historic.

Thanks Doc, I feel better already. Be careful in the hot rod.
